village
Located at the south-east of the thermal spa of Evian-the-Baths, the commune overhangs the lake Leman. It is with the foot of the mountain of Memises, dominated by the peak of Memises.
It is a small village of French Chablais, country of Gavot, which draws its resources from agriculture (bovine breeding), of tourism (ski resort), but also of the tertiary sector of close Switzerland.
One distinguishes various parts on the commune:
- Thollon Memises (chief town), with the church, the Post office and the town hall.

The country of Gavot is a small area of French Chablais, consisted of a high plateau surplomblant the lake Leman. It extends from the throats of Dranse and the tops of 3vian to the summits of the mountain of Memises (1 677 m) and of the Tooth of oche (2 222 m), that is to say 17 kms length and 5 kms broad. The country of Gavot, is a Savoyard country, belonging to the canton of 3vian-the-Baths, 5th district of Haute-Savoie, district of Thonon-the-Baths, department of Haute-Savoie, Rhone-Alps area.
You are in full country gavot, the gavots were companions carpenters and metal workers, the Companions Carpenters were divided into Companions of the Duty (alias Devoirants children of Jacques Master and the Soubise Father) and the Companions Not of the Duty or Gavots (who took to the title of Companions Carpenters of the duty of Freedom children of Solomon and of the Companions of the Linked Duties, at the end of the XVIIIe century).
The two companies often clashed during violent brawls. At the XIXe century, to decide between them, the authorities supported the contests of masterpieces. The winners could then remain alone in a city, sometimes percent years. From one of these contests the famous pulpit comes us from Montpellier (1803), work of Gavots.
